What is a Lactation Consultation?

A lactation consultation is a great value to you and your baby; the cost for one consult in your home is less than one month of artificial baby milk.  We work with you to help find a solution to your breastfeeding problem.

A Registered Nurse, International Board Certified Lactation Consultation (IBCLC), Registered Lactation Consultation (RLC) meets with you and your baby in the privacy of your own home.  The IBCLC is experienced is assisting mothers with a variety of breastfeeding situations such as sore, damaged nipples, breast infections, thrush, returning to employment, breastfeeding after breast surgery, slow infant weight gain, adoptive breastfeeding, breastfeeding with multiples, and weaning baby.

Appointments are scheduled around baby's feeding times.  The charge for a two hour consult varies with your location in the San Antonio area; call the TLC office for more details.

A lactation consultation usually includes:

*weighing your baby both before and after feeding to determine intake of milk

*a digital suck exam of the baby
